Fundraising News, May 26, 2016

The fundraising committee has planned some exciting events! We urge you all to attend as many as possible, and to help us spread the word. We are entering the critical stage of our fundraising efforts – in order to pay for needed experts.  While we have made great strides in the past 3 months, contributions are needed now more than ever!

On Wednesday, June 1st at 7pm at the First Parish Church, Protect Sudbury and The Sudbury Historical Society (SHS) will co-present “Sudbury’s Power: A History of Mid-20th Century Power Line Battles” covering Sudbury’s successful efforts fighting Boston Edison during the 1950s – 60s.  SHS Trustee Katina Fontes, former Professor of History and Heritage Studies at Regis College, will lead the program followed by a brief update from Chris Hamilton, Board Member and chair of our Legal Committee. Several board members will be available to answer questions at a reception to follow. Suggested donation is $10, proceeds will benefit our Legal Defense Fund. Understanding this history provides important context to our current battle, and also allows us to honor those who fought before us.

Our first major family fundraiser will be our Family Field Day, Trail Walk and Barbecue on Saturday, June 18th from 10 am – 3 pm at Stone Tavern Farm (Horse Pond Rd. entrance). Anne Stone has graciously offered her field to us. The day promises to be jam-packed with fun for all, so spread the word! We’ll begin the day by walking a short part of the Trail together, led by members of Sudbury Fife & Drum. Then, we’ll return to the field for fun, games and food. Sudbury’s own, Nick Chunias, owner of Juliana’s Catering, will provide the food including home-made pizza made in his portable pizza oven! Other menu items include: hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, salads, mac & cheese and watermelon. Slushies will also be available! We’ll have games for all ages: volleyball, kickball, capture the flag, face painting, tug of war, and frisbee. We will have lots of fun raffles as well.  Bring your family, friends and neighbors –  and a blanket or chair – and meet some new neighbors! It promises to be a great day! No pets, smoking or alcohol permitted. To register, and purchase tickets, visit www.protectsudbury.org/calendar. Parking at the field, Horse Pond Rd. Entrance.
